The battle over the skies in northern South Korea near the 38th parallel produced some of the most amazing air combat actions of all time. US F-86 Sabres and MiGs coming out of MiG Alley pointed their cannons at each other, found their energy, performed their air combat maneuvers and saw Aces born. MiG Alley
Without question North Korea fought long and hard with their Russian supplied MiGs and many of these came from pockets of airfields found just inside the Southwest corner of North Korea along the Yalu River. The MiGs also rose up to fight from fields in Southwest China on the opposite side of the river where normally US aircraft were not allowed to go but did hitting these planes on many occasions. You won’t hear them talking about officially and you will never see a gun camera of a MiG destroyed over Chinese territory but did it happen? You bet it did.

9860 of them were made. That’s a pretty large graduating class. North American Aviation built them, with a swept-wing design designed to counter the swept-wing MiG-15 of Soviet design. From 1950-1953 she fought valiantly over the skies of North Korea with her 4 20mm cannons.
